Twelve people were arrested and a quantity of firearms, ammunition, cannabis, and camouflage clothing were recovered during several coordinated police operations conducted across El Socorro, Mayaro, and Sangre Grande, on Tuesday 28 May 2025, the Police Service has confirmed.
Northern Division exercise
Three men were arrested during a joint roving exercise conducted between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, in the Northern Division on Tuesday.
The three men—a 22-year-old and a 27-year-old, both of Arima, and a 47-year-old man of El Socorro Road, San Juan—were held in possession of one Beretta 9-millimetre pistol, one magazine, and 25 rounds of 9-millimetre ammunition.
The operation was spearheaded by ACP North East Mr Singh, Snr. Supt. Maynard Wilson, and Supt. Guy Alleyne.
5 held in Mayaro
An anti-crime initiative in the Mayaro district carried out by officers of the Mayaro CID and TTPS Canine Unit led to the arrest of five individuals.
The exercise took place between 2:00 am and 6:00 am on Tuesday.
A 23-year-old man of Union Village, Mayaro was held for questioning in relation to a report of robbery, while a 43-year-old man was jointly arrested with him.
A 22-year-old man, also of Union Village, was arrested for possession of five rounds of 9-millimetre ammunition and camouflage clothing.
A 45-year-old woman of North West Road, Mafeking, was arrested in connection with a report of malicious wounding.
In addition, a 40-year-old man of Mafeking Road, who is an active member of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, was arrested in relation to an ongoing investigation into assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The operation was led by Senior Superintendent Paponette and supervised by Sgt. Mohammed and Cpl. Jaikaran.
Raids in Sangre Grande
Between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Tuesday, police officers carried out a series of raids, searches, and a roving road check in the Sangre Grande district.
Two search warrants were executed during the exercise.
At the residence of a 26-year-old man of Guy Trace North, Oropouche Road, officers discovered 81 grams of cannabis and 11 rounds of 12-gauge ammunition. He was arrested and is expected to be charged by PC Nanhoo.
A second warrant was executed at the home of a 36-year-old man of Blake Avenue, Robinson Lane. Nothing illegal was found there. However, the individual is listed as a priority offender.
During the roving road check, officers arrested a 29-year-old man of Quash Trace, Paharry Village, Sangre Grande for possession of 65 grams of cannabis. He also is listed as a priority offender.
Meanwhile, a 30-year-old man of Morin Bay Road North, Manzanilla was arrested for possession of 86 grams of cannabis and camouflage clothing. The TTPS says he is a person of interest and is expected to be charged by PC West.
K9 support during the exercises was provided by Cpl. Ramoutar with K9 Ashes and PC Fountain with K9 Macho.
The Police Service also reports that officers paid special attention to known drug blocks at Robinson Lane in Guaico, and Quash Trace in Paharry Village.
The Sangre Grande operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Paponette and Insp. Harper, and supervised by Sgt. Hosein, with officers from the Eastern Division Task Force and Canine Unit.
