Police officers are calling on anyone who may have information on the beating of a man at the Caura River on April 1 to come forward, after the victim died nine days after the attack.
Father of two Govinda Ramesar, 34, of Brickfield Road in Carapichaima, died on Tuesday.
He had two children ages 11 and two.
During a visit to the family’s home yesterday, some relatives were not at home as they were making funeral arrangements.
His father, who was there, was too distraught to speak and said he was not feeling well.
However, Ramesar’s aunt, who asked not to be named, said his death was very sad and shocking to his family.
Whilst they would like justice, she said, she strongly believes that no one will step forward to give any information to the police, including the identity of the attackers.
“On Tuesday he wanted to see his mother ... as he saw her he went back into the room and collapsed and died,” Ramesar’s aunt said.
The aunt said the 34-year-old sought medical attention from the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and a private doctor.
“He got beat up real. In his face and head and all over his body. He was experiencing lots of pain,” she said.
Police said Ramesar, along with other relatives, were liming at the Caura River on Easter Monday when he approached a group of people asking them to move their vehicles so he and his family could leave. An argument erupted, which turned physical when a group of about 15 people began beating and kicking Ramesar in the head and about the body. The group only stopped when he fell into a drain.
Anyone with information on the brawl can call the police at 555, 999, the nearest police station or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
Homicide detectives at Region II are investigating.
