Po­lice of­fi­cers is­sued close to $2 mil­lion in tick­et fines to mo­torists for var­i­ous of­fences over the long East­er week­end.

The ex­er­cis­es al­so re­sult­ed in the ar­rests of 64 peo­ple for var­i­ous of­fences.

The Po­lice Ser­vice said of­fi­cers is­sued 1,844 tick­ets to mo­torists.

It said 21 dri­vers were ar­rest­ed for ex­ceed­ing the pre­scribed breath al­co­hol lim­it while the ma­jor­i­ty of vi­o­la­tions were for speed­ing—as 498 tick­ets were is­sued.

Re­ports said there were 371 seat­belt vi­o­la­tions, while 119 oth­er mo­torists were tick­et­ed for dri­ving with­out in­sur­ance.

The var­i­ous op­er­a­tions and an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed through­out all 10 polic­ing di­vi­sions re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of 64 peo­ple for var­i­ous of­fences and the seizure of il­le­gal firearms and nar­cotics.

Over the week­end, po­lice seized 13 il­le­gal guns and ar­rest­ed 15 peo­ple in con­nec­tion with the seizures.

In one in­ci­dent on Sun­day, six sus­pects were ar­rest­ed and two firearms were seized when po­lice in­ter­cept­ed two ve­hi­cles in Aranguez. The six sus­pects were ar­rest­ed mere min­utes af­ter a home in­va­sion in­ci­dent in the area.

Four of the 13 guns were seized by the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion and in­clud­ed one pis­tol, one re­volver and two shot­guns.

Po­lice al­so seized ap­prox­i­mate­ly 17.57 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na and 74 grammes of co­caine.

The TTPS said at about 10.30 pm on Mon­day, of­fi­cers re­ceived in­for­ma­tion and pro­ceed­ed to Gol­con­da Con­nec­tor Road in the South­ern Di­vi­sion where they in­ter­cept­ed a Toy­ota Corol­la.

Dur­ing a search, they found 1.1 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na un­der the front pas­sen­ger seat.

One man was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Mara­bel­la Po­lice Sta­tion and charged.

The largest mar­i­jua­na seizure oc­curred in the To­ba­go Di­vi­sion, where of­fi­cers seized 8.48 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na, and one sus­pect was ar­rest­ed.

The sus­pect was one of the 21 peo­ple who were de­tained in con­nec­tion with these drug seizures.
