Police shot and killed a fisherman and wounded another during an exercise in Salybia on Wednesday.
A report said officers from the Sangre Grande CID and Task Force received information and went to Salybia.
Around 2 am, the officers saw a boat with two fishermen coming to shore. When the boat was about to anchor, the police officers called out to the fishermen to surrender. Police claimed they were allegedly shot at. They returned fire, hitting the two fishermen. Both men were taken to Sangre Grande Hospital.
However, Larry Venus, of Caigual Road, Sangre Chiquito, died. The other man, Steve Guy, of Salybia, remained warded under police guard last night.
Police said they checked the boat and allegedly found two guns and illegal drugs.
An officer from the Eastern Division is continuing an investigation.
