A large sum of cash, including US currency, was confiscated by police after a house search in Valsayn on Friday.
Police said officers of the DCP Operations Task Force, the National Operations Task Force, the Canine Unit and others received information about suspected criminal activity at several homes in Valsayn and visited it on Friday afternoon.
Inside one of the homes, officers discovered TT $29,000 and US $2,500.
One man was held in relation to the seizure.
The enquiry also includes the Financial Investigations Bureau (FIB), who will trace the origin of the money to determine whether it was used or possibly could be the proceeds of any illegal activities.
The exercise was led by DCP Operations Junior Benjamin, ACP Crime and Special Operations ACP Richard Smith, ASP St Claire and Cpl Stevenson.
Contacted for comment, DCP Operations Junior Benjamin confirmed the discovery of the cash and said such exercises were important to treat with financial crimes.
"We continue to try and reduce the crime problem with these intelligence-led operations and act on it,” he told Guardian Media.
"We will continue to do what we have to do to reduce crime and bring perpetrators to answer for any breach of the law and bring them before the court,” he added.
