Police were yesterday searching for the father of a 33-year-old epileptic woman from Chaguanas, following claims that he reportedly raped her last November.
The 33-year-old victim reported the incident to her mother around 7 pm on February 6.
The victim suffers from seizures and is a patient of the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope—where she receives treatment for brain damage as a result of an accident that she suffered when she was younger.
She told her mother that her father came to her house sometime in November 2023, and allegedly took her to the bedroom where he pulled off her clothes and stuffed a rag in her mouth before forcing her to have sex and then left.
St James man gunned down
The man who died after being shot in St James on Wednesday night was yet to be identified up to late yesterday.
The victim who was referred to only as “Snoop,” was shot multiple times at Alfred Street, which is located behind the St James Medical Sciences Complex.
Police said the victim was standing on the road around 10.50 pm, when a black car pulled up and the lone gunman opened fire.
As the car sped off, residents alerted both the police and the Emergency Health Services (EHS).
First responders took the injured man to the nearby hospital where he died around 11.20 pm while undergoing emergency treatment.
Officers of the St James CID and the Western Division Task Force visited the crime scene, while officers from the Western Division Gang Unit went to the hospital.
Three 40-calibre spent shells were recovered at the scene of the shooting.
Investigations are continuing.
Husband, wife held during domestic dispute
A wife who called the police during a domestic dispute with her husband on Wednesday night—were both arrested after lawmen found an illegal gun in the house.
The distressed woman placed several calls to the St Clair Police Station between 10 pm and 11 pm on February 7—claiming she needed help as her husband was abusing her. Acting immediately, officers led by Snr Supt Harripersad Ramnarine of the Port-of-Spain Division proceeded to the house at Fourth Street, Maraval.
In an exercise coordinated by Insp Benjamin of the St Clair Police Station and Insp Ishmael of the St Clair CID—including Cpl Seecharan and PC Ramesh of the St Clair police Station and WPC Hosein and PC Heera of the Port-of-Spain CID and Cpl Liverpool—along with officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force, arrived and spoke with the female victim.
Following a search of the house, officers found one Taurus pistol fitted with one magazine.
The couple was arrested as neither possessed a Firearm Users License (FUL). They were taken to the St Clair Police Station where they remained up to yesterday.
