Homi­cide de­tec­tives are seek­ing the pub­lic’s as­sis­tance to iden­ti­fy a woman who was dis­cov­ered with chop wounds on a road in San Fer­nan­do on Tues­day.

Po­lice found the body af­ter re­ceiv­ing an anony­mous call at 4.20 pm about a woman ly­ing mo­tion­less on the side of the road near Light Pole 18, Her­mitage Ex­ten­sion, Debe Road.

Po­lice said the body was par­tial­ly cov­ered with a blue and mul­ti-coloured blan­ket.

The de­ceased was de­scribed as be­ing of mixed de­scent, light brown in com­plex­ion, with short black curly hair, and about five feet five inch­es tall. She was wear­ing a black top and tights.

The body was re­moved to a fu­ner­al home pend­ing an au­top­sy at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James.

When Guardian Me­dia vis­it­ed the scene yes­ter­day, sev­er­al peo­ple were still un­aware of the in­ci­dent.

The road had street lights but it is a lone­ly farm­ing area with no hous­es.

One man, who wished not to be iden­ti­fied, said a body was dumped in the same area a few years ago.

An­oth­er man called for the in­stal­la­tion of cam­eras, since the area was be­ing used as a dump­ing ground and there had been ram­pant prae­di­al lar­ce­ny.

Of­fi­cers of the Homi­cide Bu­reau Re­gion III and South­ern Di­vi­sion vis­it­ed the scene.
