A manhunt has been launched for a fugitive who opened fire on police as they attempted to arrest him on Friday in Princes Town.
The accused remains on the run and police believe he is currently in hiding in a forested area.
The accused is wanted in connection with several charges including shooting with intent, common assault, obscene language and escaping lawful custody.
Investigators said around 6 pm, the accused of Fifth Company Road, Moruga was sitting in a BT-50 pickup at Forte George Road, Indian Walk when a team of officers including PC Deboulet, PC Baisden and PC Bissoon spotted him.
The officers stopped the police car and attempted to arrest the accused but he jumped out of the van and started running into some bushes.
The officers gave chase and the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the police. The officers returned fire but the suspect fled.
He is yet to be arrested. Investigations are continuing.
