A man­hunt has been launched for a fugi­tive who opened fire on po­lice as they at­tempt­ed to ar­rest him on Fri­day in Princes Town.

The ac­cused re­mains on the run and po­lice be­lieve he is cur­rent­ly in hid­ing in a forest­ed area.

The ac­cused is want­ed in con­nec­tion with sev­er­al charges in­clud­ing shoot­ing with in­tent, com­mon as­sault, ob­scene lan­guage and es­cap­ing law­ful cus­tody.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said around 6 pm, the ac­cused of Fifth Com­pa­ny Road, Moru­ga was sit­ting in a BT-50 pick­up at Forte George Road, In­di­an Walk when a team of of­fi­cers in­clud­ing PC De­boulet, PC Bais­den and PC Bis­soon spot­ted him.

The of­fi­cers stopped the po­lice car and at­tempt­ed to ar­rest the ac­cused but he jumped out of the van and start­ed run­ning in­to some bush­es.

The of­fi­cers gave chase and the sus­pect pulled out a gun and fired at the po­lice. The of­fi­cers re­turned fire but the sus­pect fled.

He is yet to be ar­rest­ed. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
