Research conducted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and titled The Impact of Technology in 2023 and Beyond: A Global Study, indicates the telecommunications and automotive sectors were two of the most impacted by technologies last year.
And among the technologies most cited as important in 2022, according to the same study, are 5G (with 66 per cent), cloud computing (with 36 per cent) and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), with 34 per cent.
With an eye on these markets, Corning Optical Communications, a leading manufacturer of fibre and optical connectivity worldwide, has just launched a new family of shielded hoses in the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
In a news release, Corning Optical Communications described the shielded hoses as “flexible, easy to install, high durability, good resistance to crushing and pressure,” adding that the new solution has “the same performance as standard optical cables, but with the reinforcing differential in its structure.”
With an armoured cable that features a stainless steel tube intertwined over a tight protective coated fibre, which is surrounded by a layer of aramid wire and an outer sheath to further protect the cable, shielded optical cables feature a rugged steel armour design, which can provide much greater compression. Resistance to damage from inadequate twisting and crushing, protection against rodents and increased safety, making it ideal for industrial and heavy traffic areas.
“The new shielded optical cable is flexible, stronger and, at the same time, easier to install. Its stainless steel tube inside the outer shell provides high durability, good crush and pressure resistance, ensuring additional protection against improper twisting – a tailor-made solution for data centres and harsh environments. Available for 3.0 mm DFX® and 2x2.0 mm duplex cables, the new product features two types of terminations (SC and LC connectors), is available in single-mode and multimode fibre,” said Giovani Machado, Corning’s marketing manager for Latin America.
The cable is intended for data centres and harsh environments and the new solution has the same performance as standard optical cables, said Corning.
Corning Optical Communications is a business division of Corning Inc., one of the world’s most innovative materials science companies, inventor of low-loss fibre, a leader in its field and with more than 170 years of history.
The division is present worldwide, having set the optical connectivity standard for the largest FTTx broadband projects and present in the world’s largest data centres. Latin America is considered a strategic market for the company, given the crucial technological moment it is experiencing with the expansion of networks.
In this region, the company has two factories, one in Mexico and one in Brazil, with local development that is responsible for meeting the demand of the entire region, in addition to exporting to other markets such as the United States.
