Two cousins from Laventille suffered severe injuries during an incident in which they were pinned between two trailers on Carnival Monday in Port-of-Spain.
The women, aged 23 and 24, of Upper St Barb’s Road, Laventille, were participating in the J’Ouvert celebrations in St James, when around 9 am, two bands attempted to pass each other along Damien Street.
As one of the DJs urged revellers to move to the left of their respective trucks, the women allegedly attempted to cross between the two trailers. In doing so, they were pinned between the trailers.
One woman sustained a broken hip and internal bleeding, while the second suffered extensive injuries to her pelvis and chest.
Both victims were rushed to the St James Infirmary before being treated and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they were scheduled to undergo emergency surgery.
One of the trailers was later impounded following checks by the Licensing Division, while the second was allowed to leave.
A Chaguanas woman was left traumatised on Monday, after she was sexually assaulted during the J’ouvert celebrations in Woodbrook.
The victim, who lives in Edinburgh, was enjoying herself in a popular band when around 9.08 am, the suspect came up behind her.
Believing him to be a security guard hired by the band, as he was wearing a black and yellow t-shirt with the word “SECURITY” on it, the woman said she was not alarmed when he began wining on her.
However, the woman raised an objection when the man pulled her underwear aside and inserted his finger into her.
Fighting him off as she raised an alarm, the victim managed to alert the band’s security, who chased him down as he ran off. He was subsequently held and handed over to the police.
A Malabar Secondary School student died at hospital on Monday night, after being shot at home by two armed men.
The deceased was identified as Ezekiel Moore, 16, of Gladious Crescent, La Horquetta.
Reports indicate that Moore’s father was on the phone with his mother around 7.25 pm when he was alerted by a noise outside.
Whilst walking to the open front door, he saw two armed men entering the unfenced property.
He rushed to close the door but was unaware the suspects had circled around to the back of the house and entered via the back door, which had been open.
He heard loud explosions and rushed outside and saw the gunmen getting into a white wagon, which sped off.
He was then alerted by his other children that his son, who was in a bedroom, had been shot.
He alerted a neighbour and they drove to the La Horquetta Police Station where officers escorted them to the Arima Hospital.
Despite attempts to save him, Ezekiel Moore succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7.51 pm.
