A 22-year-old man has appeared before a Couva Magistrate charged with the murder of Jaffet Williams, which occurred in June 2022.
EMMANUEL JOHN, aka ‘John Wick’, of Couva, appeared before Magistrate Alexander Prince, in the Couva First Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday 1 February 2023.
The Police Service confirmed in a statement that in addition to the murder charge, John also was charged with Possession of Firearm, Possession of Ammunition, Possession of Firearm to Endanger Life and Possession of Ammunition to Endanger Life.
The matter was adjourned to March 1st, 2023.
Jaffet Williams, 28, of California, was standing along the roadway in Couva, on Monday 20 June 2022, when he was approached by a vehicle. An armed assailant who was an occupant of the vehicle allegedly shot at him before escaping.
The victim, Williams, died at the scene.
Investigations led to the arrest of a male suspect in the Couva district in January 2023, in connection with the incident.
Emmanuel John was charged on January 31, 2023, following advice received from Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Joan Honore-Paul, on January 13, 2023.
