A 22-year-old man has ap­peared be­fore a Cou­va Mag­is­trate charged with the mur­der of Jaf­fet Williams, which oc­curred in June 2022.

EM­MANUEL JOHN, aka ‘John Wick’, of Cou­va, ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Alexan­der Prince, in the Cou­va First Mag­is­trates’ Court, on Wednes­day 1 Feb­ru­ary 2023. 

The Po­lice Ser­vice con­firmed in a state­ment that in ad­di­tion to the mur­der charge, John al­so was charged with Pos­ses­sion of Firearm, Pos­ses­sion of Am­mu­ni­tion, Pos­ses­sion of Firearm to En­dan­ger Life and Pos­ses­sion of Am­mu­ni­tion to En­dan­ger Life.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to March 1st, 2023.

Jaf­fet Williams, 28, of Cal­i­for­nia, was stand­ing along the road­way in Cou­va, on Mon­day 20 June 2022, when he was ap­proached by a ve­hi­cle. An armed as­sailant who was an oc­cu­pant of the ve­hi­cle al­leged­ly shot at him be­fore es­cap­ing.

The vic­tim, Williams, died at the scene.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions led to the ar­rest of a male sus­pect in the Cou­va dis­trict in Jan­u­ary 2023, in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent.

Em­manuel John was charged on Jan­u­ary 31, 2023, fol­low­ing ad­vice re­ceived from Deputy Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions, Joan Hon­ore-Paul, on Jan­u­ary 13, 2023.
