Police are investigating a violent robbery at the home of a customs officer who was beaten and robbed of US$10,000 during the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 37-year-old victim and his 34-year-old wife, a quality manager, told police they were asleep at their home in Central Trinidad, when around 3.30 am they were awoken by noises.
They were then accosted by three masked men, all armed with firearms, who tied them up in their bedroom.
During the ordeal, the bandits struck the customs officer repeatedly with a crowbar, then ransacked the home.
They stole a quantity of jewellery, US$10,000, a quantity of T&T currency and three phones.
The assailants escaped in the customs officer's black Toyota Yaris valued at $180,000.
Freeport Police is investigating the matter.
