A wedding ring and a large sum of cash were among the items stolen when cutlass-wielding bandits broke into the home of a La Romaine businessman early Wednesday morning.
Police said the 30-year-old man and his wife were awakened by a loud noise outside their bedroom around 3 am. Within seconds, two men dressed in dark-coloured hoodies, one armed with a cutlass, burst into the room.
One of the suspects bound the husband’s hands with plastic straps while the other ransacked the house. The bandits stole a bag containing approximately 80 grams of gold scraps, one white gold wedding ring, three gold hand bands, one Louis Vuitton handbag, and three gold beras.
The total value of the items was yet to be determined.
They also stole several bottles of alcoholic beverages and $38,000 in cash.
Southern Division Police responded to the report but found no signs of forced entry. However, investigators noted that the bandits exited through the front door.
Crime Scene Investigators searched for fingerprints but were unsuccessful. Officers were awaiting formal statements as investigations continued. (KF)
