The father of a man who was shot dead during a home invasion in Chaguanas on Saturday night wants details of what exactly led to his son’s death.
Police said Mark Anthony Joseph, 25, from Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, along with several other men tried breaking into a house in Egypt Village, Chaguanas, when they were confronted by a woman who owned the house.
In the report, the woman called on the men to stop and leave, but they continued trying to open the door of the house.
The woman, using a relative’s licenced gun, shot and killed Joseph, while the others fled from the house.
Speaking with Guardian Media at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, Joseph’s father, Michael Joseph, said he was unclear what exactly happened and hoped to get some answers soon.
Joseph said his son worked as a security guard for Premium Security Company for the past two weeks.
He said he did not know his son to be involved in any criminal activities and was confused as to what transpired Saturday night.
“He was never a bandit or a crook or anything. He had his little issues, taking his little smoke and thing.
“It’s a shock and everyone responds to shock differently. I haven’t spoken much to anyone. I’m just trying to see what I can do to recover his body and see what next,” Joseph said.
“The details on what happened that night is still sketchy in my mind, and I’m looking to see if I can get more information on exactly what took place,” the father added.
Joseph said another account of the incident suggested that his son was travelling in a car with others and began acting unsettled, causing him to get out of the car and somehow got to the woman’s home where he was shot.
He said this account did not provide many details. He said he was searching for answers.
“I just want someone to tell me what really happened.”
Joseph said his son was the father of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy and intended to apply to join the Prison Service which is on a recruitment drive.
“He was looking to join the Prison Service because recently they recruited a couple thousand people, he wanted to get into that to get a stable job. He has an 18-month-old son, so that was his plan going forward. He even tried to spruce himself up more in preparation, he started exercising more,” Joseph said.
Contacted for comment, one officer in the Central Division said the matter was still being investigated but noted that officers would have to seek advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on how to proceed with the matter.
There was no word from the police on whether or not Mark Anthony Joseph had a criminal record.
