With two weeks to go before the General Election on April 28, the T&T Police Service (TTPS) is urging all political candidates and supporters to operate within the parameters of the law or face the consequences.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Police Administration Building, Port-of-Spain yesterday, acting DCP, Operations, Curt Simon assured the security apparatus was already in place.
He confirmed they had met with all campaign managers to review and enforce the regulations.
Simon said people had been reminded to demonstrate respect, act dignified, and utilise picong as it was meant.
Meanwhile, he urged people to ensure they applied early for the proper permits for all music trucks, as those who were late could face disappointment.
He implored, “If you apply late, you may not be successful in getting the necessary documents from Licensing Office and hence, the police may have to refuse your trucks from being on the road.”
He did, however, claim the electioneering period had been “peaceful” so far.
Simon advised citizens to feel safe to move around as the Easter holiday approaches as security forces were already in place to ensure law and order was maintained.
