The decomposed body found floating in the Gulf of Paria on November 19 has been identified as 36-year-old Faraz Mohammed.
The construction worker, of Phoenix Park Road, California, went missing on November 11.
The Hunters’ Search and Rescue Team, led by Captain Vallence Rambarat and relatives, had conducted searches for him in the Carapichaima/Waterloo areas.
Relatives believe he was murdered and his body thrown into the sea.
However, they have no details about the facts surrounding his disappearance or what led to his death. He lived with his mother, sister and other relatives, but when Guardian Media visited the home yesterday, no one was there.
The Coast Guard received a call around 7.30 am on November 19 about a body floating off Five Islands Waterpark in Chaguaramas, but they did not find anything when they got there.
Based on further information, the officer went eight nautical miles west of Felicity, and around 10.40 am, the body was spotted drifting south.
The body appeared to have a head wound, the report stated. A relative who requested anonymity told Guardian Media they heard Mohammed was by his girlfriend’s house when a car with three male occupants picked him up.
However, he said another story was that Mohammed was liming in Perseverance, Couva, when he had an altercation with some men. Despite being missing for several days, the relative said they were hopeful that he would have been found alive.
Another relative said she was not confident that the perpetrator/s would be brought to justice. “I don’t think so. The amount of crime it have and you don’t get no justice. Today we bury him, tomorrow is another person,” she lamented.
She said Mohammed was good to her. “I would not say he was good and I would not say he was bad, but for we, he respect me. He was good to me, but I don’t know how he was outside,” she said.
His funeral service took place on Monday. Investigations are continuing.
