Po­lice are try­ing to iden­ti­fy the body of a man found float­ing in the wa­ters near the Hy­att Re­gency Ho­tel, Port of Spain, on Fri­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said a boater picked up a div­er from the Port and was re­turn­ing to his Ja­maican-flagged ves­sel at around 6:24 am, when he no­ticed the de­com­pos­ing body float­ing near­by.

The boater in­formed the cap­tain of the ship, who called the po­lice.

Of­fi­cers of the Ma­rine Pa­trol Unit and the Coastal Unit went to the scene and found the body about 1,000 me­ters from the shore­line.

Po­lice brought the body to shore where it was de­clared dead by a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer.

Of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Po­lice Sta­tion and the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions Re­gion I vis­it­ed the scene.
