Senior Disaster Management Coordinator, Jerry David, is calling out the state for approving the construction of structures on hilltops.

This, he says, worsens flooding during the rainy season, especially in areas such as Diego Martin and Maraval.

According to David, the deforestation taking place for such concrete structures will cause the water to flow downhill when it rains, impacting those who live in the lower parts of the hills.

Jerry David said this year they were able to acquire new machinery, which will be available for every Regional Corporation needing help with flooding and clean up.

The disaster management official was speaking at the Trinidad and Tobago Disaster Risk Management Conference on Monday, June 3.
