Among the dif­fer­ent pri­or­i­ties of his min­istry, Min­is­ter of Health Ter­rence Deyals­ingh is hope­ful that Mon­day’s bud­get will cov­er ex­pens­es for the com­ple­tion of up­grade works of two hos­pi­tals.

Speak­ing with re­porters at the start of a TT Moves Walkathon at the Queen’s Park Sa­van­nah, Port of Spain, on Sat­ur­day, Deyals­ingh when asked about his ex­pec­ta­tions for the bud­get for fis­cal 2024, said “Things should be okay.”

He added that sev­er­al key items for his min­istry in­clud­ed the com­ple­tion of works at hos­pi­tals.

“With the bud­get we want to con­tin­ue our in­fra­struc­tur­al de­vel­op­ment pro­grammes, which is the con­struc­tion of the San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal to fin­ish off that, fur­ther fund­ing for the Port of Spain Cen­tral Block, we just fin­ished mov­ing in­to the Min­istry of Health Head Of­fice so that fund­ing has al­ready been tak­ing care of.

“So those are some ma­jor in­fra­struc­tur­al projects that we want to con­tin­ue fund­ing for.

“Al­so we want to con­tin­ue fund­ing out re­cur­rent ex­pen­di­ture.”

For the 2023 fis­cal year, the Min­istry of Health re­ceived the sec­ond high­est al­lo­ca­tion be­hind Ed­u­ca­tion and Train­ing with $6.892 bil­lion.
