Among the different priorities of his ministry, Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh is hopeful that Monday’s budget will cover expenses for the completion of upgrade works of two hospitals.
Speaking with reporters at the start of a TT Moves Walkathon at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port of Spain, on Saturday, Deyalsingh when asked about his expectations for the budget for fiscal 2024, said “Things should be okay.”
He added that several key items for his ministry included the completion of works at hospitals.
“With the budget we want to continue our infrastructural development programmes, which is the construction of the Sangre Grande Hospital to finish off that, further funding for the Port of Spain Central Block, we just finished moving into the Ministry of Health Head Office so that funding has already been taking care of.
“So those are some major infrastructural projects that we want to continue funding for.
“Also we want to continue funding out recurrent expenditure.”
For the 2023 fiscal year, the Ministry of Health received the second highest allocation behind Education and Training with $6.892 billion.
