Disruption in water supply in parts of South and Central Trinidad

Cus­tomers of  The Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA) in parts of Cen­tral and South Trinidad, served by the Point Lisas De­sali­na­tion Plant may ex­pe­ri­ence a dis­rup­tion in their reg­u­lar pipe-borne wa­ter sup­ply, on Fri­day 16th Oc­to­ber 2020, be­tween the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 mid­night.
In a press re­lease is­sued to­day, the Au­thor­i­ty stat­ed that this has be­come nec­es­sary for the Trinidad and To­ba­go Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC) to car­ry out emer­gency works on the elec­tric­i­ty sup­ply to the De­sal­cott owned and op­er­at­ed fa­cil­i­ty.


Through­out the works, there will be a re­duc­tion in the wa­ter sup­ply. Among the ar­eas af­fect­ed in­clude Point Lisas, Cal­i­for­nia, Cou­va, City of San Fer­nan­do, Dun­can Vil­lage, Green Acres, La­dy Hailes, Em­babadere, Union Hall, Pleas­antville, Palmiste, Phillip­ine, Es­per­ance, La Ro­main, South Oropouche, Ota­heite, Rousil­lac, Aripero, Parts of La Brea, Av­o­cat, Fyz­abad, Siparia, San Fran­cique, Wood­land, Parts of Pe­nal, Debe, Vic­to­ria Vil­lage, Corinth, Mara­bel­la, Gas­par­il­lo and Plai­sance Park.


WASA has asked that cus­tomers man­age their wa­ter use ef­fi­cient­ly, as it may take up to 36 hours for the sup­ply to nor­mal­ize to some af­fect­ed ar­eas, af­ter the Plant re­turns to full op­er­a­tion. For fur­ther in­for­ma­tion or as­sis­tance, cus­tomers are en­cour­aged to con­tact WASA’s Cus­tomer Call Cen­tre toll-free at 800-4420/26.
A Lim­it­ed truck-borne wa­ter ser­vice will be avail­able with pri­or­i­ty giv­en to spe­cial homes, health care and gov­ern­ment in­sti­tu­tions. The Au­thor­i­ty apol­o­gized for any in­con­ve­nience caused as a re­sult of this sit­u­a­tion at the Point Lisas De­sali­na­tion Plant.
