San Fernando-based doctor Ronald Budhooram struggles with two armed bandits who attempted to rob his Cocoyea, San Fernando office.

A 62-year-old medical doctor fought off two assailants and escaped when they tried to hold him up at his office in Cocoyea Village, San Fernando on Friday. A video of the incident circulating on social media shows a man sitting in the waiting area of the office speaking with Dr Ronald Budhooram.

Police said the man was pretending to be a patient. When the doctor opened the door to let him out of the office, the man grabbed the doctor who tried to run out the door. However, another man standing on the outside of the door grabbed him. The doctor struggled with the assailant and managed to escape his clutches. The assailant was left holding his (doctor’s) shirt as the doctor ran off bareback. The assailants stole a quantity of cash from inside the office.

Budhooram was two years ago charged with unlawfully killing a baby after the body of a newborn baby was found in a freezer at his office. The doctor is out on bail and that matter is still pending at the San Fernando Magistrates Court. Meanwhile, Mon Repos police are continuing investigations into the robbery at the doctor’s office.

Police are asking that anyone who recognises the assailants in the video or have any information about the robbery to please contact the nearest police station, 800-TIPS or WhatsApp 482-GARY.

During my consultation with Ms Brafit CEO Nicole Joseph-Chin, what was supposed to be a simple mastectomy bra fitting became something much deeper. Her thoughtful questions unlocked emotions I didn’t even realise I was holding in. She comforted, reassured, and helped me face the truth of what was coming. That bra wasn’t just clothing—it was the first real symbol of life after surgery.
