A doubles vendor and her employee were tied up and robbed of thousands of dollars when four masked men stormed her home at Plymouth Road, Tobago, early this morning.
Police said around about 2 am, the vendor was preparing food with two workers when the men entered. Two were armed with rifles, one had a cutlass, and another carried a handgun.
The intruders forced the vendor and one employee upstairs, tied them up, and ransacked two bedrooms. Out of fear, the vendor handed over $21,600 and US$100. The men also stole a digital video recorder and a cellphone before escaping on foot.
The victims later managed to free themselves with the help of other workers and contacted police.
According to descriptions given to investigators, one suspect was of African descent, about six feet tall, dressed in dark clothes and armed with a cutlass. Another was of East Indian descent, brown-skinned, dressed in camouflage, and masked. A third wore a chrome character mask and carried a firearm, while the fourth was also masked, about six feet tall, and armed with a rifle.
Police are continuing enquiries.
