It is now up to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine whether or not charges will be laid in the death of Mark Anthony Joseph, 25, who was shot during an alleged home invasion in Chaguanas in July.
A senior officer in the Central Division has confirmed that the file on the case has been handed over to the DPP.
There have been claims that Joseph was not involved in a home invasion when he was shot dead at a home in Egypt Village, Chaguanas, on July 29.
Police had initially reported that Joseph, of Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas, and several other men were attempting to break into the house when they were confronted by a woman.
The woman, using a relative’s licensed gun, shot and killed Joseph, while the others fled from the house.
However, Joseph’s father, Michael, said his son was a security guard and was not involved in criminal activities. It was also alleged that Joseph was a former friend of a resident of the house and had gone there to collect some personal items when the incident occurred.
The police were told that when Joseph went to the house, he continuously sounded a vehicle’s horn and shook the gate in a bid to get the attention of the occupants of the house. It was then that he was shot and killed.
The police have since confirmed that Joseph did not have a criminal record.
