Three bandits were held minutes after they robbed a 65-year-old woman of her handbag in St Anns early yesterday morning.
Police said the woman was on St Ann’s Road, at around 5.10 am when the bandits snatched her bag, got into a white Hyundai Accent and sped off.
A report was made and officers of the Port of Spain Division initiated a “dragnet” across two divisions to search for the suspects.
Police reported seeing a car matching the description of the vehicle used in the robbery on the Morvant Old Road. They intercepted the vehicle, searched it and found the woman’s handbag in the front passenger seat.
The suspects, two 20-year-olds and a 16-year-old from Morvant and Port-of-Spain were arrested.
Police from the Belmont CID are continuing enquiries.
The response was led by Cpls Christopher, and Omadath together with PCs Blades, Beetam, Sammy, Gangoo, Aguillera and Lezama.
Four held, ganja and gun seized in St Joseph
A series of patrols and searches in St Joseph early yesterday morning led to the seizure of marijuana, a gun and the arrest of four men.
Officers from the North-Central Division Task Force West, Tunapuna CID, Northern Division Support Unit and Canine Unit began the exercise at 3 am and ended it at 7 am.
During the operation, they visited a house at Guamal Hill, Acono Road, Maracas/St Joseph, where they found a Beretta PX4 Storm pistol with 24 rounds of ammunition. A 29-year-old man, who police described as a priority offender, was arrested.
Police visited another house in the area where they found 171 grams of marijuana and arrested a 46-year-old man. They arrested two other men in area for possession of marijuana.
The exercise was led by ACP Oswain Subero, Snr Supt Richard Smith, Supt Terrence Nowbutt and W/Supt Powder, with supervision from Sgt Peters and Cpl Gooding.
