Driver in high-speed chase video charged

Shawn Bran­don Guy, of Man­zanil­la Road, Ma­yaro; was charged with ma­li­cious dam­age and lar­ce­ny of $20,000.

Last week, Guy ap­peared in a high-speed chase video that was wide­ly shared on so­cial me­dia.

In the video, the vic­tim who record­ed the in­ci­dent; and his broth­er fol­lowed the Red Nis­san Syl­phy along the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way un­til they stopped in Barataria where two men man­aged to es­cape.

The vic­tim and his broth­er was able to sub­due Guy, who was dri­ving.

This oc­curred af­ter the vic­tim dis­cov­ered $20,000 miss­ing from his ve­hi­cle af­ter see­ing a man briskly walk­ing away from his ve­hi­cle and en­ter­ing the Red Nis­san Syl­phy which then sped off.

The vic­tim sub­se­quent­ly fol­lowed the ve­hi­cle while con­tact­ing the po­lice.

The fol­low­ing is an of­fi­cial press re­lease from the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice on the in­ci­dent.

“A res­i­dent of Ma­yaro who was re­port­ed­ly held fol­low­ing a high- speed chase by two broth­ers, have been charged with ma­li­cious dam­age and lar­ce­ny of $20,000.

Shawn Bran­don Guy, 23, of Man­zanil­la Road, Ma­yaro, was charged fol­low­ing an in­ci­dent which oc­curred on Ju­ly 28th, 2021 at ABC Home Store lo­cat­ed at Aranguez Ac­cess Road, South Aranguez.

A man parked his Isuzu Dmax van and went to make a pur­chase.

On his re­turn, he saw a man briskly walk­ing away from his ve­hi­cle and sub­se­quent­ly en­tered a Red Nis­san Syl­phy which quick­ly drove off.

The ve­hi­cle own­er saw the right rear win­dow bro­ken and up­on check­ing ob­served that TT$20,000 cash was miss­ing from an en­ve­lope which was left in a bag on the back seat.

The vic­tim and his broth­er fol­lowed the red Nis­san Syl­phy along the Churchill Roo­sevelt High­way.

The vic­tim con­tact­ed the po­lice and al­so record­ed a video which was shared wide­ly on so­cial me­dia.

The Red Nis­san Syl­phy came to a stop at dead end at Gob­in Trace #2, Barataria. Two men jumped out of that ve­hi­cle and es­caped.

The dri­ver was sub­dued by the vic­tim and his broth­er and was hand­ed over to re­spond­ing po­lice of­fi­cers short­ly af­ter.

Af­ter in­ves­ti­ga­tions were con­duct­ed, Guy was charged and ap­peared be­fore Jus­tice of the Peace, Abrahim Ali, where he was grant­ed bail in the sum of $100,000 with a sure­ty.

Guy will ap­pear vir­tu­al­ly at Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court on Sep­tem­ber 6th, 2021. In­ves­ti­ga­tions were spear­head­ed by Se­nior Supt Win­ston.”
