For the second time in the space of 24 hours, there was a fatal shooting in downtown Port-of-Spain.
Police responding to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of Church’s Chicken on Independence Square at around 4 am yesterday found the body of 21-year-old Nathan Thomas, of St Paul Street. He had been fatally shot in the head.
CCTV footage from the scene showed two men in dark clothing coming out of the HDC apartments on Duncan Street at approximately 3.51 am. One of them was dressed in a black sweater with a hoodie with a mask covering his face.
The men made their way on foot along George Street and onto Independence Square North where the suspect in the hoodie approached Thomas and fired several shots in his direction. They fled the scene, running along Independence Square and George Street back to the Duncan Street apartments.
Thomas’ body was identified by his sister.
This murder occurred just hours after 22-year-old Shakaree Humphrey, of lower Nelson Street, was killed in a drive-by shooting at the corner of George and Queen Streets on Friday afternoon. Humphrey died at the scene and two elderly people who were wounded in the incident were treated at hospital.
Investigations into both incidents are continuing, as well as the murder of Marvin Scott, 44, of Laventille Road, who was fatally shot by unknown gunmen at around 11.30 pm on Friday.
