Educator Anna Mahase dies at 91

Renowned and high­ly re­spect­ed ed­u­ca­tor, Dr An­na Ma­hase, has died at age 91 years.  Re­ports say she died this morn­ing at hos­pi­tal.

Dr An­na Ma­hase was the re­cip­i­ent of sev­er­al na­tion­al awards in­clud­ing the Medal of Mer­it (Gold) (1976), and Cha­co­nia Medal (Gold) (1990).

She was se­lect­ed as one of the top 50 per­sons to re­ceive the Ex­cel­lence in Ed­u­ca­tion and Dis­tin­guished Pub­lic Ser­vice (2012).

In 1961, at age 28 years, she was youngest prin­ci­pal to lead the St Au­gus­tine Girl's High School.

Dur­ing her life­time, she re­ceived an hon­orary de­gree of Doc­tor of Laws from Mount Al­li­son Uni­ver­si­ty and an­oth­er from the Uni­ver­si­ty of the West In­dies.
