Eight held in Central Division anti-crime sweep

Eight sus­pects have been ar­rest­ed in a se­ries of an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es across the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion on Mon­day.

The ar­rests came as part of in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to se­ri­ous of­fences, in­clud­ing kid­nap­ping, rob­bery with vi­o­lence, bur­glary and rape.

Of­fi­cers of the Ch­agua­nas CID de­tained a 50‑year‑old Cunu­pia man in con­nec­tion with a rape re­port­ed in the Ch­agua­nas area on June 21.

In a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise, a joint team from the Cou­va CID and the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force (Area South) ap­pre­hend­ed five sus­pects, ages 25 to 42, for bur­glary-re­lat­ed of­fences. The same team al­so held two men, ages 53 and 45, in con­nec­tion with a re­port of kid­nap­ping and rob­bery with vi­o­lence.

Po­lice said in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
