A fire alarm was trig­gered at the Point Fortin Hos­pi­tal last night, re­sult­ing in sev­er­al peo­ple evac­u­at­ing the build­ing.

The South-West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (SWRHA) has con­firmed that the in­ci­dent oc­curred.

A video on so­cial me­dia shows peo­ple leav­ing the main en­trance as this an­nounce­ment was made via the PA sys­tem:

"At­ten­tion please, fire is be­ing re­port­ed in the build­ing. Please leave the build­ing im­me­di­ate­ly by the near­est ex­it."

In a state­ment is­sued on Mon­day night (June 5, 2022), the South-West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (SWRHA) con­firmed a fire alarm was trig­gered at a lo­cal­ized sec­tion of the Point Fortin Hos­pi­tal.

How­ev­er, it as­sured that there was no fire in the build­ing:

"As is cus­tom­ary, the pre­cau­tion­ary alert, safe­ty and in­ves­ti­ga­tion mea­sures were im­me­di­ate­ly ac­ti­vat­ed by the SWRHA staff, along with sup­port­ing emer­gency agen­cies, in­clud­ing the TTFS.

The SWRHA, in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the na­tion­al part­ner agen­cies, have con­firmed that no fire or any re­lat­ed event of con­cern has tak­en place at the Hos­pi­tal.

The Au­thor­i­ty as­sures that op­er­a­tions con­tin­ue un­in­ter­rupt­ed and pa­tient care has not been com­pro­mised."

Point Fortin po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the in­ci­dent.
