Fire of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to a re­port of a blaze at the Cen­tral Bank build­ing in down­town Port-of-Spain on Fri­day night, but say it was not a fire but ac­tu­al­ly steam.

Fire of­fi­cers from the Wright­son Road Fire Sta­tion con­firmed that they re­ceived a re­port of smoke em­a­nat­ing from the third floor of the build­ing around 11.13 pm, prompt­ing them to vis­it the build­ing, check the area, but found no signs of fire.

The fire of­fi­cers said what was orig­i­nal­ly thought to be smoke was ac­tu­al­ly steam from the build­ing’s ven­ti­la­tion sys­tem.

No fur­ther in­for­ma­tion on the in­ci­dent was avail­able from the fire ser­vice or the po­lice.

When Guardian Me­dia vis­it­ed the area yes­ter­day morn­ing, the out­side of the build­ing ap­peared to be in good con­di­tion, with no sign of smoke or fire dam­age. —SS
