Eight months have passed since Spanish teacher Susan Maynard disappeared without a trace, but her family has not given up hope that she will be found alive.
With the help of a professional, the family created three photographs of what Maynard could be looking like now.
In the photos Maynard’s facial features are slightly altered and the hairstyle is different.
“We are asking everyone to take a careful look at these photos and if they have seen her or know of her whereabouts to please contact the police,” appealed her mother Clarissa Jones, 65.
Maynard, who will celebrate her 42nd birthday on August 26, went missing on September 4, 2018, under mysterious circumstances which continue to baffle her family.
She was last seen by her mother around 1.30 pm when she left home to buy a phone card at a nearby parlour, along the Caroni Savannah Road, in Chaguanas.
In an email sent to the Guardian Media, the family said, “Someone must have seen her. We are therefore pleading that anyone with information, please come forward and contact her mother or the police so that we may ensure her safe return.”
The family believes someone might be holding her against her will.
“We know that if she she was able to return home, she would have. Thus, we are appealing if anyone has her to release her. She is not well and needs to be under medical supervision. We place a photo of her showing how she may look now.”
Despite the torture they are feeling, the family urged other families facing similar situations not to give up hope.
“We feel for any family who is facing an ordeal such as this. We can only say to those families, ‘don’t give up, keep praying and never lose hope.”
Jones believes her daughter, the fourth of her six children, will one day return to her. “As her mother I know she is still alive and out there. I just have a feeling.”
She said the past eight months have been very difficult for the family.
“We have put fliers throughout Trinidad and Tobago and we have not gotten any response. We got some information, but when the police went to check, it was false.”
Jones said the police are still searching for her. Recalling the last day she saw her daughter, she said Maynard went to a doctors’s appointment, but when she returned home she was not feeling herself.
When her daughter did not return home from the parlour, Jones said she contacted her son who is a policeman and then they made a report at the police station.
Their inquires revealed that Maynard got to the entrance of the parlour but turned back, never to be seen again.
Maynard did not have her cellphone with her. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the police or Maynard’s family at 341-7952 or 399-1034.
