The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) reshuffle will reportedly happen tomorrow.

A little over two years after it was announced, the THA Executive Council is set to be reshuffled in an announcement, a source told Guardian Media yesterday. The source said all secretaries were reportedly told which positions would be adjusted and which would remain the same.

Guardian Media understands that Chief Secretary Farley Augustine called all his secretaries into individual meetings last Friday and informed them that he would let them know which positions would be adjusted by yesterday.

Yesterday, each secretary and assistant secretary were called into a meeting and they were told which positions would be adjusted.

Guardian Media, however, was unable to get an idea of which changes were made.

Speaking to the media last night, Augustine only hinted at something exciting about to happen, without saying anything else.

But a source said the reshuffle is set and the official statement was being finalised and may happen during the post-Executive Council media briefing tomorrow.

The impending reshuffle was first mentioned in December 2022.

At that time, Augustine said the aim was to effectively implement the mandates and pledges made to the people of Tobago, after spending a year in office and evaluating what works and what needs improvement.

Then in January 2023, Augustine said he would assess the roles of each secretary, looking at their strengths to improve management within the THA. In March, he again hinted at structural changes.

Last November, THA minority leader Kelvon Morris called for the reshuffle to happen, saying, “The time has come for the Chief Secretary to review the functions of all the various divisions of the THA and perhaps do some reshuffling. There are Tobagonians who are out there and experienced, willing able and capable.”

In response, Augustine told Morris the construct of his executive was none of his business.
