Father charged after choking son for spilling food

A 46-year-old man, of Cas­cade, was grant­ed $75,000 bail with a sure­ty when he ap­peared in court on a charge of Cru­el­ty to a Child.

The ac­cused was ar­rest­ed and charged with cru­el­ty of a child by of­fi­cers of the Child Pro­tec­tion Unit (CPU) on Wednes­day .

The vic­tim, a mi­nor, re­port­ed to of­fi­cers, that his fa­ther tried feed­ing him.

The boy re­fused to eat. Dur­ing the process some food spilled on the ground. Whilst the mi­nor was clean­ing the floor, it was al­leged that the ac­cused picked up a brown belt and placed it around the boy’s neck and dragged him from the kitchen to the din­ing room. It was al­leged the ac­cused al­so kicked the boy.

WPC Bostic was de­tailed to con­duct the in­ves­ti­ga­tions, which re­sult­ed in the ac­cused be­ing ar­rest­ed by of­fi­cers the Child Pro­tec­tion Unit (CPU).

He ap­peared vir­tu­al­ly at the Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trates’ Court and was grant­ed bail in the sum of $75,000 with the con­di­tion that he has no con­tact with the boy.
