Chaguanas father Nigel Rampersad was killed during a freak accident involving a truck and trailer in Freeport on Monday.

In response to the tragic news of his passing, there was an outpouring of shock and sadness over social media by relatives and friends.

Rampersad, of Felicity, Chaguanas, was employed with Sampson Transport Company Ltd.

Initial police reports said around 6.30 pm he was driving a truck towing a 40ft container on a trailer on the compound of F.C.W Limited at Rajkumar Trace, Mission Road, Freeport.

He reportedly made a right turn and the truck jack-knifed causing part of the container to fall and crushed the cabin.

The weight of the container pinned Rampersad.

He died at the scene. But, a crane had to lift the container off of the truck for Rampersad’s body to be removed.

Rampersad’s son Justin posted on Facebook: “Who would of ever thought this morning would of been the last time saying goodbye, why god had to take you so soon dad why?...still in shock...you told me to come pick u up from work and I didn’t expect to meet his....fly high my king...love you forever.”

Another post by Devika Maraj Ramballie stated, “To my cousin-in-law Nigel Rampersad I’m now able to process your untimely death.”

Rampersad’s children’s teacher Gary Dookie posted, “This is a SHOCKER!! Nigel Rampersad an exceptional and loving parent. I had the pleasure of teaching his 3 kids at my school and indeed a devoted, committed and reliable daddy! My heart hurts for your very educated and respectful children and your amazing wife. May God be with them and your family and friends. Anything, anytime wasn’t too hard for you to lend support and advise. A true family man.”
