A Felicity Community Watch group has nabbed two people who they believed are involved in a car theft. Sundar Jookoo, 53, spokesman for the watch group, said villagers were monitoring Cacandee Road around 4:25 am on Sunday and observed a Nissan B14 speeding.
Jokoo said the car hit two humps in the vicinity of the Felicity Presbyterian School and then swerved. The vehicle then hit two humps in the vicinity of the Felicity SDMS Hindu School where it broke one of the front wheels and crashed into the pavement and collided with a wall. Jokoo said the driver fled and the passenger came out disoriented and had to be assisted by the watch group. Watch group members discovered that the engine was running and there were no keys in the ignition.
The watch group became suspicious at that point and called the police. Jookoo said the Chaguanas police said they had no vehicles and to leave the occupants there. He said the police informed him when they had a vehicle they would come. Jookoo said a call was made to PC Maharaj of the Longdenville Police Post and a vehicle was dispatched while villagers searched for the driver who was later found limping in Pierre Road .
Jokoo said the police arrived 45 minutes later and spoke with the occupants of the car before detaining both men. Jokoo said ” We are doing this for our community, when the bandits know we are here watching they may think twice before coming to Felicity. The police need to get the relevant tools such as vehicles to get the job done. The police are trying very hard, but if they don’t have vehicles what do you expect them to, hold a curry Q or raffle to buy a police car.“
