Honorary Consul for the Republic of Portugal, William Ferreira, has been re-elected as the Dean of the Consular Corps of T&T.

Ferreira received the nod as the organisation held its annual general meeting at Furness House in Port-of-Spain last Wednesday.

Prominent attorney-at-law Om Lalla, who serves as Honorary Consul for the Republic of Slovenia, and Troy Garcia, who serves as Honorary Consul for the Republic of Finland, were re-elected as secretary and treasurer, respectively.

"The new executive has pledged to maintain and strengthen relationships within the Consular Corps and all agencies, both private and public to support ongoing collaboration," a release from the organisation said.

The organisation represents diplomats from 32 countries.

Honorary Consuls represent the interests of their home country in the host country where they are appointed.

They do so by acting as a liaison between the two nations while fostering diplomatic, economic and cultural ties.
