An alcohol-fuelled argument over a noisy fan led to a violent outburst in which a female relative fatally stabbed 33-year-old Kerron Phillip at his Claxton Bay home early yesterday morning.
Phillip, a mason, of Diamond Village, Claxton Bay, was stabbed once in the abdomen with a knife, police said.
Initial reports stated that on Monday night he was drinking and liming with relatives in celebration of his brother’s birthday. Around 1 am, Phillip returned to home, which is located next door, and got into an argument with the 36-year-old female relative over the noisy fan in the bedroom.
He slapped her and they began scuffling, during which she allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed him. Phillip’s ten-year-old daughter ran to a relative’s home for assistance. Eventually, the police and ambulance arrived and he was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died around 3.30 am.
Relatives said Phillip and the female relative were both drinking and frequently had domestic disputes. A relative said Phillip went home after he got into a heated argument with a sibling and had an argument with the suspect.
“From what I hear when I wake up, they say the fan making noise and like he tell she about it … and he hit she a slap and with that she stab him,” he said.
Trying to contain her tears, Phillip’s mother, Joan, 62, said she did not know why they were arguing. Recalling her final interaction with her son before the ambulance left with him, she said, “I say Kerron, Kerron, Kerron. I say what happen? He say. ‘Ma, (name called) stabbed me.’ I don’t know what went on, I don’t know the reason. I cannot say for what because I was not around.”
She said her son had known the suspect for 13 years. He was the father of three daughters, ages 10, nine and one year old.
