The file pertaining to the alleged home invasion that occurred on July 29 at Egypt Village, Endeavour, in which a 25-year-old security guard was killed, has been returned for investigating officers to conduct further inquiries.
The file was submitted over a week ago to Assistant Commissioner of Police for the South/Central Division Lucia Winchester, who sent it back to the officers.
The investigation is seeking to determine if or what charges are to be laid against a 45-year-old woman for reportedly killing Mark Anthony Joseph, as she allegedly defended her family against a home invasion.
In addition to whether or not she can face a murder charge, the investigation will determine if other charges, including possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition ,can be proffered against her.
Senior legal sources have said all three are possible but it would be up to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to decide.
As part of the investigation, officers recorded statements and collected CCTV footage of the incident.
The woman was said to have been at home with her daughter, when it was alleged the deceased entered the fenced property and opened the door to her silver Honda CRV, which had been parked in the yard, and sounded the horn several times before walking to the front door and shaking it as he attempted to gain entry to the house.
The woman reportedly retrieved a male relative’s licensed firearm which had been secured in the bedroom and fired a single shot in the suspect’s direction, hitting him in the head. As he collapsed on the floor of the garage, she contacted the police.
Joseph’s father, Michael Joseph, said he was unsure of what led to his son’s death and is looking forward to getting some answers.
