A fire broke out in one of the build­ings at the St Jude’s Home for Girls in Bel­mont yes­ter­day.

Luck­i­ly no one was hurt or in­jured when the build­ing caught ablaze in the af­ter­noon.

A pass­er-by told the Sun­day Guardian she heard a loud ex­plo­sion while walk­ing along Bel­mont Cir­cu­lar Road fol­lowed by the screams of chil­dren.

The build­ing is not the main dor­mi­to­ry that hous­es the chil­dren.

Of­fi­cers from the Bel­mont Fire Sta­tion re­spond­ed to the fire.
