The T&T Fire Service is appealing to owners of abandoned properties to secure their premises.
The appeal was made following a fire at a warehouse in Diego Martin yesterday.
A report said fire officials received a call at around 10.30 am that a warehouse in the Diamond Vale Industrial Estate at Factory Road, Diego Martin, was on fire.
Tenders from Four Roads in Diego Martin, Chaguaramas and Wrightson Road headquarters responded and found a heap of large cardboard boxes at the warehouse on fire.
There was no major threat to any neighbouring buildings. The fire was quickly contained and put out.
Guardian Media understands the factory was used in the past by the John Dickerson paper company.
Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Dave Isaac told Guardian Media, “One of the major pieces of advice we will give people who are owners of abandoned buildings and also buildings that are not being occupied on a daily basis is that it should be properly secured because if it is not secured you have other persons entering freely and they can be the cause of this incident because in this building there is no electricity.”
