Five suspects have been arrested and a firearm, ammunition, and narcotics seized following two anti-crime exercises in the Eastern Division over the weekend.
The latest operation was carried out by officers of the Manzanilla Police Post between 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Acting on intelligence, officers proceeded to Plum Road, Manzanilla, where they arrested a 27-year-old woman for possession of a firearm. The weapon was found loaded with a magazine containing 27 rounds of ammunition.
In an earlier operation in the Mayaro district, which took place between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Friday 27th June, officers from the Criminal Investigations Department and Canine Branch arrested four individuals.
The suspects, aged 24 to 52 and all residents of Mayaro, were held for various offences including possession of ammunition and possession of cocaine.
Both operations were coordinated by Senior Superintendent Paponette and Acting Inspector Mahabir.
