Police are investigating five more deaths occurring between Old Year’s night and New Year’s day.
The killings occurred in Valencia, Kelly Village, Caroni, Penal and Marabella.
In what police suspect to be a drug-related hit, fisherman Cordelle George was gunned down in a track at Marabella on New Year’s Eve.
Hours later, carwash owner Nasir Saqui, 46, was also killed.
Saqui’s body was found lying on his bed with wounds to the right side of his face and eyes.
In the first incident, police say George, 26, of Battoo Boulevard East, Marabella was walking along the track when someone came out and started firing from a nine-millimetre semi-automatic pistol.
George was struck on the neck and forehead.
George’s aunt Orisha George, 42, who heard the gunshots, called the police.
Sgt Noyan, Cpl Nanan and PCs Acevero and Basdeo responded to the scene.
No one was arrested. Police retrieved four spent shells from the scene of the crime.
Meanwhile, police are still investigating the circumstances behind Saqui’s death.
Saqui who operated a car care centre at his Fazal Avenue, Penal home was last seen alive on New Year’s Eve.
His step-father Everard Winford, 70, told police he tried to contact Saqui and when he failed to respond, Winford visited his home and found him lying dead on the bed.
There was a wound to the right side of his forehead and eye area. PC Bahaw and Gay responded. Autopsies will be done on the bodies next week.
