Commuters attempting to make their way into the capital city, Port-of-Spain, found themselves having to cautiously navigate floodwaters in the vicinity of the Central Market and along South Quay.
Guardian Media understands that South Quay, between Vieira Street and Piccadilly Street, in the vicinity of the retention pond, remained under flood waters as a result of yesterday’s heavy rainfall. At least one vehicle was seen stalled in the floodwaters.
There are reports of a heavy traffic build-up along the Eastern Main Road and the Priority Bus Route heading west into Port of Spain.
Police officers are doing their best to regulate the traffic, but it is proving a challenge with the volume of persons either coming into the city itself, or passing through to head further west.
Traffic is being diverted along Abattoir Road, behind the Central Market, to South Quay just west of Piccadilly Street to proceed into Port of Spain.
There also is heavy traffic heading west onto the John John Flyover to proceed to Old St. Joseph Road, and thereafter into Independence Square South.
Meanwhile, clean-up operations are ongoing in Beetham Gardens Phase 3.
Guardian Media understands the entire community, including Servol, was affected badly by yesterday’s flooding. Disaster Management Units and the Fire Services are rendering assistance to distressed residents.
