Four peo­ple who took a risk and went to lime at Ma­yaro beach have been ar­rest­ed and charged by the po­lice.

The two cou­ples were held in two sep­a­rate in­ci­dents dur­ing ex­er­cis­es which took place be­tween 11 am and 3 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm on Sat­ur­day.

The ex­er­cis­es were head­ed by Snr Supt Joseph Chan­dool, su­per­vised by act­ing In­sp Ramkissoon and in­clud­ed act­ing Sgt Nar­ine, PCs Baran and Ve­rasam­my, as well as of­fi­cers of the Ma­yaro Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) and Task Force.

In the first in­ci­dent, the of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed a 23-year-old man of St Joseph and his 22-year-old fe­male friend of Ch­agua­nas. They were both charged with vi­o­lat­ing the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions and will ap­pear vir­tu­al­ly at the Ma­yaro Mag­is­trates’ Court to­day.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, a 33-year-old Rio Claro woman and a 55-year-old man from Princes Town were al­so charged for breach of the reg­u­la­tions. Po­lice said they were tak­ing a drink at the beach. They were charged with breach­ing the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions and con­sum­ing al­co­hol in a pub­lic place dur­ing the State of Emer­gency. They will ap­pear in court on Tues­day.

Mean­while, po­lice al­so ar­rest­ed a 33-year-old man of Plai­sance, Ma­yaro, af­ter he was al­leged­ly found with one round of nine-mil­lime­tre am­mu­ni­tion. His mat­ter is al­so sched­uled to be heard on to­day.
