Police have seized four illegal firearms, 132 rounds of ammunition, and narcotics, and arrested five people during multi-division operations over the past 24 hours.
According to the TTPS, in the Northern Division, officers conducted a roving operation in the Maloney District from midnight to 4 am. In the vicinity of Building 12, several men fled as a police vehicle approached. A search of the area recovered a Smith and Wesson pistol, and a later return between 6 am and 9 am uncovered a magazine containing 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
During the same operation, four men were detained. One, in connection with a robbery in Arouca, was also allegedly found with 148 grammes of cannabis. Three others, aged 20, 23, and 34, were found in a vehicle reported stolen in the San Juan Police District on 3 June 2023.
In the Port of Spain Division, officers from Besson Street and Belmont Police Stations, assisted by the Canine Unit, conducted a drug block operation between 8 pm and midnight. Searches along St. Barb’s Road, Harpe’s Place, Piccadilly Street, Nelson Street, and the Beetham led to the seizure of five grammes of cocaine and nine cannabis plants.
Earlier, between 4:30 pm and 6 pm, officers led by ASP Cadette searched a residence on St. Lucien Road, Diego Martin. A Glock 43 pistol with a 10-round magazine, four packets of cannabis, three scales, a sealer, and several bags were reportedly found. The 32-year-old occupant was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, and possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Intelligence also led officers to a bushy area off Morne Coco Road, Diego Martin, where a search uncovered two pistols and two magazines. These items were seized and taken to Belmont Police Station for further enquiries.
In the Central Division, members of the Central Division Task Force, Area North and South, along with the Canine Unit, conducted Operation Festive Shield between 10 am and 2 pm. During a search of an abandoned concrete structure on Freedom Street, Enterprise, officers found 10 rounds of ammunition hidden inside a concrete block.
In Couva, a team from the Couva Criminal Investigations Department discovered 100 rounds of .22 ammunition hidden in a black plastic bag inside a refrigerator on Trotman Road, Mc Bean Village. Investigations into all these findings are ongoing.
