Four held after Digicel Mayaro robbery

Four men were ar­rest­ed with­in one hour of rob­bing sev­er­al cus­tomers in­clud­ing a woman po­lice in­spec­tor of her firearm at a Dig­i­cel out­let in Ma­yaro Wednes­day.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors told Guardian Me­dia Lim­it­ed that three men one armed with a gun en­tered the out­let at #4 Guayagua­yare Road, Ma­yaro short­ly af­ter 11:20 a.m and an­nounced a hold-up.

Sev­er­al cus­tomers were re­lieved of cash, cell phones and oth­er valu­ables.

Dur­ing the rob­bery, a woman po­lice in­spec­tor Fon­rose from the Ma­yaro Po­lice Sta­tion at­tempt­ed to draw her li­censed per­son­al firearm.

How­ev­er, one of the sus­pects am­bushed her from be­hind and took away her firearm.

The ban­dits al­so stole from her a quan­ti­ty of cash and valu­ables.

The armed ban­dits al­so robbed the Dig­i­cel out­let of an undis­closed amount of cash and lat­er es­caped in a black Hon­da Civic mo­tor­car with a fourth sus­pect- the get­away dri­ver.

Po­lice of­fi­cers from Rio Claro and Ma­yaro CID and Task Force in­ter­cept­ed the ve­hi­cle close to 12:20 pm along the Man­zanil­la stretch.

The dri­ver was the first to be held, while the oth­er three sus­pects ran off in­to the co­conut plan­ta­tions but were lat­er ar­rest­ed.

The po­lice re­cov­ered two firearms, the in­spec­tor's firearm and the il­le­gal firearm.

The cash and valu­ables be­long­ing to the cus­tomers were al­so re­cov­ered.
