Four men were arrested within one hour of robbing several customers including a woman police inspector of her firearm at a Digicel outlet in Mayaro Wednesday.
Investigators told Guardian Media Limited that three men one armed with a gun entered the outlet at #4 Guayaguayare Road, Mayaro shortly after 11:20 a.m and announced a hold-up.
Several customers were relieved of cash, cell phones and other valuables.
During the robbery, a woman police inspector Fonrose from the Mayaro Police Station attempted to draw her licensed personal firearm.
However, one of the suspects ambushed her from behind and took away her firearm.
The bandits also stole from her a quantity of cash and valuables.
The armed bandits also robbed the Digicel outlet of an undisclosed amount of cash and later escaped in a black Honda Civic motorcar with a fourth suspect- the getaway driver.
Police officers from Rio Claro and Mayaro CID and Task Force intercepted the vehicle close to 12:20 pm along the Manzanilla stretch.
The driver was the first to be held, while the other three suspects ran off into the coconut plantations but were later arrested.
The police recovered two firearms, the inspector's firearm and the illegal firearm.
The cash and valuables belonging to the customers were also recovered.
