MAHARAJ pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined $5,000, or in default to serve 18 months’ hard labour. However, ALICK and SUTHERLAND, who both pleaded not guilty to the charges, were denied bail and remanded into custody for 120 days.
Meanwhile, NEPTUNE pleaded not guilty to his charges, was denied bail and remanded into custody for 120 days.
MAHARAJ, ALICK and SUTHERLAND were arrested on June 8th 2022, during an intelligence-led exercise, after three men allegedly broke into a house located at Maloney Gardens and stole several items, on that same date. Upon receiving the report of the incident, officers immediately sprang into action, conducting investigations which resulted in the arrest of the three accused. The stolen items were recovered at a Maloney Gardens apartment.
NEPTUNE was also arrested during the same intelligence-led exercise as the other three accused. According to police reports, an armed man allegedly entered a Maloney Gardens mini-mart and announced a robbery. The shop owner raised an alarm, which caused the assailant to flee the scene in a silver Nissan Tiida vehicle.
The investigations were spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Christopher Paponette, Supt. Edwards and ASP Ettienne. It was supervised by Sgt. Guelmo of the Maloney Police Station and Sgt. Bissessar of the Maloney Criminal Investigations Department (CID) with assistance from officers of the Maloney Charge Room and CID.
