Fourth person charged in kidnapping case

A fourth per­son has been charged in con­nec­tion with a re­port of kid­nap­ping against a La Brea man which oc­curred March 28th.

Jef­fery Despot, 50, of Beach Road, Vance Riv­er Vil­lage, Guapo, ap­peared be­fore a Point Fortin Mag­is­trate via video con­fer­enc­ing to­day to an­swer to the charge.

He was grant­ed bail for $75,000 with sure­ty or $20,000 cash.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Ju­ly 3rd. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports, the vic­tim re­port­ed to po­lice that he was at one of his prop­er­ties at Beach Road, Vance Riv­er Vil­lage, La Brea, on March 28th, when he got in­to an ar­gu­ment with four per­sons known to him.

Dur­ing the in­ci­dent, the vic­tim was bound and tied in a house for about 10 min­utes, while the as­sailants beat him.

He was sub­se­quent­ly re­leased and pro­ceed­ed to the Point Fortin dis­trict hos­pi­tal to seek med­ical at­ten­tion.

A re­port was made to the po­lice which re­sult­ed in three per­sons be­ing ar­rest­ed and charged in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent be­tween April 2020 and May 2020. Despot sub­se­quent­ly sur­ren­dered him­self to of­fi­cers of the Guapo Po­lice Sta­tion on Tues­day, June 16th, 2020 and was lat­er charged by Cpl Ram­jat­tan on Wednes­day, June 17th, 2020
