Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion Dr Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly says she is giv­ing “strong con­sid­er­a­tion” to con­test­ing the post of vice chair­man in the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment’s up­com­ing par­ty elec­tions.

Nom­i­na­tion day is Mon­day (Oc­to­ber 10) and the elec­tions will be held on No­vem­ber 26-27 and De­cem­ber 4.

The vice chair­man­ship has been va­cant since Robert Le Hunte re­signed from the post in Jan­u­ary, af­ter re­sign­ing as Pub­lic Util­i­ties Min­is­ter in 2021.

Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Fi­nance Bri­an Man­ning (San Fer­nan­do East MP) on Tues­day con­firmed he’s con­test­ing the vice chair­man­ship.

Yes­ter­day, a so­cial me­dia post cir­cu­lat­ed which claimed “We the peo­ple” sup­port­ed Gads­by-Dol­ly for vice chair­man. It didn’t state who “We the peo­ple” was.

Con­tact­ed by Guardian Me­dia, Gads­by-Dol­ly said she didn’t know who is­sued the post. But she added, “I can say though, that I am giv­ing it strong con­sid­er­a­tion.”

PNM sup­port­ers and mem­bers have said many of the 16 ex­ec­u­tive posts will be con­test­ed. There is word that sev­er­al in­cum­bents may not be de­fend­ing their posts ei­ther.

Mean­while, re­gard­ing “slates” be­ing post­ed on so­cial me­dia on Tues­day, the PNM’s elec­tion team yes­ter­day is­sued a state­ment say­ing it had “is­sued no list of slates of can­di­dates for the up­com­ing in­ter­nal elec­tion.” The team dis­tanced it­self from any list pur­port­ing to be PNM can­di­dates cur­rent­ly be­ing cir­cu­lat­ed. The team in­tends to pub­lish a list of all nom­i­nees next Tues­day af­ter nom­i­na­tions are in.

Gads­by-Dol­ly’s name was on one of the “slate/lists” in cir­cu­la­tion, but for the post of la­dy vice chair­man, not vice chair­man. La­dy vice-chair­man is now held by Camille Robin­son-Reg­is.

On Tues­day, a num­ber of peo­ple whose names were on the pur­port­ed lists, in­clud­ing for­mer min­is­ter Mar­i­ano Browne, Joel Primus and Pearce Robin­son dis­tanced them­selves from the lists, par­tic­u­lar­ly from one al­leged­ly de­scribed as a slate of for­mer min­is­ter Karen Nunez-Tesheira. She has an­nounced her in­ten­tion to con­test the post of po­lit­i­cal leader, which is cur­rent­ly held by Prime Min­is­ter Dr Kei­th Row­ley.
